Switchgear, TFT etc are leagues ahead of the 890. I’ve ridden the 790 adventure but not the 890. It was very good, but I preferred the weight balance and feel of the F850. Power felt broadly the same. Wasn’t keen on the looks but that’s a minor thing. You won’t go wrong with the BMW or the KTM.

After looking at the middleweight ADV options in the 10-14k range I settled on two top contenders, the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport and the BMW F 750 GS. I did consider others like the Versys 650, which didn't feel like enough of an upgrade, and the Africa Twin which felt a bit too biased towards off road for me.
On the BMW F 850 GS Adventure only the back portion of the tank bag lightly touches down against the plastic – the sides and front are OK. The bottom EVA material helps keep scratching down, but a lightweight foam tank pad (always installed to minimize scratches from riding gear) eliminates this issue, as would some clear protective film.
